Selected Problems of the Uncertainty Determination of Measurements and Computational Value in Thermal Processes

چکیده
Thermal measurements in energy engineering are a rather complex matter. Many physical quantities cannot be measured directly. They must be calculated making use of algorithms basing on the results of direct measurements. Any measurement is always an inaccurate operation. A measure of the inaccuracy of measurements is the uncertainty of this measurement defined as a parameter characterizing the scatter of values of the measured quantity. The paper deals with some selected problems connected with the determination of the uncertainty of measurements and calculated values in compliance with DIN and ISO standard. The calculations of the uncertainty of the specific enthalpy, difference of enthalpy, the fluid flux and the energy efficiency of the steam boiler determination have been presented, as well as exemplary results of calculation of the uncertainty of the thermal efficiency of a steam boiler fired with pulverized coal.

Development of a Moving Finite Element-Based Inverse Heat Conduction Method for Determination of Moving Surface Temperature
A moving finite element-based inverse method for determining the temperature on a moving surface is developed. The moving mesh is generated employing the transfinite mapping technique. The proposed algorithms are used in the estimation of surface temperature on a moving boundary with high velocity in the burning process of a homogenous low thermal diffusivity solid fuel. The measurements obtain...

Accurate modeling of fluidization and heat transfer phenomena in gas-solid fluidized beds is not solely dependent on the particular selected numerical model and involved algorithms. In fact, choosing the right model for each specific operating condition, the correct implementation of each model, and the right choice of parameters and boundary conditions, determine the accuracy of the results i...
متن کاملA Computational Statistics Approach to Stochastic Inverse Problems and Uncertainty Quantification in Heat Transfer
As most engineering systems and processes operate in an uncertain environment, it becomes increasingly important to address their analysis and inverse design in a stochastic manner using statistical data-driven methods. Recent advances in computational Bayesian and spatial statistics enable complete and efficient solution procedures to such problems. Herein, a novel framework based on Bayesian ...

Background and Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of a mass balance model to estimate the rate of aerobic processes in a landfill. Materials and Methods: Monte Carlo simulation is a common method to evaluate uncertainty of the results of a model. Here, we used a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. The data obtained from the experiments were used as...
